Every Sunday morning, Grandma used to surprise us with a breakfast that smelled like heaven—soft, golden, and just the right amount of sweet. Now, I recreate those cozy memories with this Hawaiian Roll French Toast. It’s a simple twist that turns a classic into something truly special. Try it for your next brunch and bring a bit of island sunshine to your table!
4 large eggs
½ cup milk (whole milk or any alternative)
1 tbsp vanilla extract
½ tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp salt
⅛ tsp nutmeg
2 tbsp unsalted butter
12 Hawaiian Rolls (like King’s Hawaiian), sliced in half
Optional: Confectioners’ sugar & maple syrup for serving
In a deep bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg.
Heat a griddle or non-stick skillet over medium heat. Melt 1 tbsp of butter.
Dip each roll half in the egg mixture, making sure it’s well coated but not soggy.
Cook rolls on the griddle for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
Transfer to a plate and keep warm. Repeat with the remaining rolls, adding more butter as needed.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup. Enjoy warm!
For extra flavor, try adding a splash of orange juice to the batter.
Day-old Hawaiian rolls work best—they soak up the mixture beautifully without falling apart.
Great for holiday breakfasts or when you want to treat yourself!
