Hawaiian Roll French Toast: The Ultimate Brunch Upgrade

Hawaiian Roll French Toast

Every Sunday morning, Grandma used to surprise us with a breakfast that smelled like heaven—soft, golden, and just the right amount of sweet. Now, I recreate those cozy memories with this Hawaiian Roll French Toast. It’s a simple twist that turns a classic into something truly special. Try it for your next brunch and bring a bit of island sunshine to your table!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs

  • ½ cup milk (whole milk or any alternative)

  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ⅛ tsp nutmeg

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

  • 12 Hawaiian Rolls (like King’s Hawaiian), sliced in half

  • Optional: Confectioners’ sugar & maple syrup for serving

Instructions

  • In a deep bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg.

  • Heat a griddle or non-stick skillet over medium heat. Melt 1 tbsp of butter.

  • Dip each roll half in the egg mixture, making sure it’s well coated but not soggy.

  • Cook rolls on the griddle for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.

  • Transfer to a plate and keep warm. Repeat with the remaining rolls, adding more butter as needed.

  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup. Enjoy warm!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, try adding a splash of orange juice to the batter.

  • Day-old Hawaiian rolls work best—they soak up the mixture beautifully without falling apart.

  • Great for holiday breakfasts or when you want to treat yourself!
