Bang Bang Chicken is a crispy, spicy, and creamy dish that’s perfect for those who love a little heat with a touch of sweetness. The chicken is fried to golden perfection and coated in a flavorful sauce that’s both tangy and slightly sweet. This dish is great as an appetizer, over rice, or even in wraps!
Ingredients
Bang Bang Sauce:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup chili-garlic sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 teaspoons sriracha
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- Black pepper, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Bang Bang Chicken:
- 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
- ¾ cup cornstarch
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Spicy chili flakes (optional, for garnish)
- Fresh chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Bang Bang Sauce:
- In a small bowl, mix all sauce ingredients (mayonnaise, chili-garlic sauce, honey, sriracha, paprika, lemon juice, salt, and pepper) until smooth.
- Refrigerate until ready to use.
2. Fry the Chicken:
- Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or skillet to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, soak the chicken pieces in buttermilk while the oil heats.
- In another bowl, whisk together cornstarch, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Drain the chicken from the buttermilk, shaking off excess, then coat evenly in the cornstarch mixture.
- Fry the chicken in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through (internal temp should be 165°F/74°C).
- Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
3. Toss & Serve:
- Toss the fried chicken in the prepared Bang Bang sauce until fully coated.
- Garnish with chili flakes and fresh parsley (if using).
- Serve immediately while crispy!
Notes
✔ For extra crispy chicken, double-fry the pieces (fry once, let rest, then fry again).
✔ Adjust the spiciness by increasing or decreasing the sriracha and chili-garlic sauce.
✔ If you don’t have buttermilk, mix ½ cup milk with ½ tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar and let it sit for 5 minutes.
✔ For a healthier version, air-fry or bake the chicken instead of deep-frying.
